Pete spends summer holiday volunteering
August has been a busy month for the Brightlingsea School in Ghana. We had a former Colne Community School teacher, Pete Harvey, travel out to Ghana to volunteer in his summer holiday. Pete immersed himself with day to day chores at the school even helping with our ongoing building work. Our school bins have even been upgraded by Pete who painted Brightlingsea themed pictures around school. Having talented volunteers to help run the school allows us to make sure everything is ticking along as it should be!
We have nearly finished building an additional three classrooms ahead of the new school term! We have been working to a tight deadline, keeping our fingers crossed that we will meet our completion date in September. The roof still needs to go on and windows, plastering and painting are all on this months to do list. Thankfully the funding isn’t a problem since we have had two very generous donors fund the building project.
Also, this month we received over £250 worth of musical donations from Brightlingsea-based piano teacher Melanie Bridle’ and her pupils. They held a garden party raise the funds for a great selection of instruments. Thank you to everyone who was involved, parents, grandparents, students and Melanie herself.
